Indigenous Education

I am a proud member of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation from Treaty Six Territory. I have deep connections to my culture, traditions, and teachings.

In our classroom, we embrace Indigenous education as an integral part of our curriculum, creating an environment where cultural awareness, appreciation, and respect flourish. Children will learn through a variety of meaningful activities.

Oral Storytelling:
The stories connect us to the wisdom and traditions of Indigenous peoples, igniting curiosity and respect for their cultures.

Diverse Literature in Our Library:
Our classroom library is a treasure trove of Indigenous-authored children’s books. They provide valuable insights into Indigenous cultures and experiences, allowing the children to explore different perspectives and experiences.

Hands-On Art and Craft Activities:
Indigenous-inspired art and craft activities celebrate the beauty of Indigenous heritage. Children will discover the joy of self-expression while learning about traditional Indigenous art forms.

Music and Dance Adventures:
Our classroom resonates with the beats and rhythms of Indigenous music. Through dance, song, and even experimenting with simple Indigenous musical instruments, children explore Indigenous music and dance forms. It’s a celebration of culture through movement and sound, igniting a lifelong appreciation for the power of music and dance.

Nature-Based Learning:
Our nature-based activities foster an understanding of local ecosystems, native plants, and animals, connecting us to the land and its significance in Indigenous cultures.
