Arts in Action at St Vital Mall

We’re excited to share that the Louis Riel School Division will be showcasing student artwork at St. Vital Centre this week.

Our Kindergarten class will have their beautiful artwork on display. We invite families to visit the mall with loved ones to view your child’s painting and celebrate their learning and creativity together.

Here is a brief overview of the learning that inspired our birch tree paintings:

In Kindergarten, we are learning how to be stewards of the land, which means we care for and respect the Earth. Through Indigenous teachings, we are discovering the importance of Mother Earth and how all living things are connected. These teachings help us understand that even small actions can show respect and kindness to the land around us.

As part of our learning, we have been exploring trees. We listened to a legend that teaches us how the birch tree got its unique markings. The story reminds us of the importance of honesty and keeping our promises. Just like the markings on the birch tree, our words and actions leave a mark, and we strive to make them good ones.

We also learned that in Cree, a birch tree is called waskway ahtik. Learning this word helps us appreciate the language and culture connected to the land we live on. Through stories, language, and nature, we are growing into thoughtful caretakers of the Earth.

Families are invited to view the artwork during the following times:
April 16 (Thursday) from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
