Fall into Independence

Hello Kindergarten Families!

It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through October! As the weather starts to cool down, we’re spending more time practicing important life skills in Kindergarten—especially getting dressed independently.

We would love your support at home in helping your child practice putting on their outdoor gear. This includes things like hats, mittens, zipping up jackets, and buttoning coats. A little extra practice at home can make a big difference in building their confidence and independence at school!

Thanks so much for your support!

Head Lice- What families need to know

We’d like to let families know that a case of head lice has been found in our classroom. To help prevent it from spreading, we ask that you check your child’s hair daily for the next two weeks. If you do find head lice, please let the school know as soon as possible so we can support you.

We read a story about head lice together and took some time to talk about it as a class. The children were encouraged to ask questions, and we had an open, reassuring conversation to help them understand and feel comfortable.

A head lice information sheet will be coming home in your child’s Friday folder today.

Age Appropriate Content

In our classroom, we’ve been exploring Indigenous culture, with my emphasis on appreciating the valuable knowledge we can gain from Indigenous communities. While many students understand the significance of Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, I want to clarify that our class won’t be discussing the specific topic of residential schools. At this age, children are still developing their sense of time, and it’s not uncommon for them to have concerns about school as a safe and secure place.

We encourage everyone to wear orange on Friday, September 26th.

Early Dismissal Reminder

Friendly reminder: Tomorrow is an early dismissal day! Our kinder friends will be ready to go home at 2:15 p.m. Please meet us at our usual outside meeting spot for pickup.

If you haven’t had a chance yet, please take a look at the calendar section of our Kinder Blog. That’s where you’ll find all of our important upcoming dates!

Save the Date

I am excited to share that our class will be visiting Morning Sound Farm on June 17, 2026 for a special field trip.  This outdoor adventure will be a wonderful learning experience for the children. Several volunteers will be needed for the field trip. I’ll be sending out more details and a volunteer request as the date approaches, but if you’d like to add your name early, please feel free to contact me.

Snack and Lunch Reminders

Thank you for continuing to send healthy snacks and lunches with your child each day. We encourage keeping treats like juice, chips, and chocolate for after school. As a reminder, please keep all nuts (including peanuts, almonds, hazelnuts, etc.) at home to help keep our students with severe nut allergies safe.

We also ask that snacks be packed separately from lunches. When everything is packed together, it can be tricky for children to know what to save, and some feel upset if they can’t eat all of their lunch foods during snack time.

Sign Language

In our class, we are learning daily routines and practicing how to ask for help. We have many friends who speak different languages, and together we are building our communication skills. Along with using our words, we are also learning some sign language to support each other. So far, we know the signs for: eat, water, sit, walk, toilet, love, please, and thank you.
